St. Anthony the Abbot is most well known as the Patriarch of Monks; the father of western monasticism. He is also the patron saint of grave-diggers and the protector of domestic animals such as cattle and other livestock. He is especially invoked for protection against the disaster from fire.
In His Footsteps: Fast for one day, if possible, as Anthony did, eating only bread and only after the sun sets. Pray as you do that God will show you how dependent you are on God for your strength.
Prayer to St. Anthony
Saint Anthony, you spoke of the importance of persevering in our faith and our practice. Help us to wake up each day with new zeal for the Christian life and a desire to take the next challenge instead of just sitting still. Amen
Blessed by Pope Francis during public audience in Saint Peter Square.
